About Berlin

Berlin operates as Germany’s centre for government, technology, education and culture. Boasting a well-developed infrastructure, faster growing office workforce than London or Paris, and strong economic growth, the city presents a striking investment case.

With 5.3% year on year nominal GDP growth, Berlin remains a hotspot for investment. Employment grew by 33% between 2009 and 2019, with over 200,000 jobs created in the services sector alone. Employment growth in knowledge-based and future-oriented sectors provides a solid platform for sustained economic growth in the years to come.

The city is now home to 2,713 startups employing over 50,000 people. Mitte, alone is home to 46% of all startups and 44% of all start up jobs. The sector as a whole attracted over EUR4.1 billion worth of venture capital investment in 2019, an increase of almost 80% on the previous year. Berlin’s most prominent startup – Zalando achieved unicorn status in 2015 and will take up 23 floors of office space in the 2021 STREAM-Tower, with 2500 desks. Today Zalando is Berlin’s 13th largest employer with 6,000 employees, and is expecting to employ over 10,000 staff across Berlin by 2022.
